Wow! Désolé, je suis encore sous le coup de l'émotion ressenti lors de ce spectacle mémorable d'Änglagård à la salle Jean-Paul Tardif hier soir. Nous avons eu le privilège et l'honneur d'accueillir les suédois qui en étaient à leur première visite québécoise et canadienne! Beaucoup de personnes ont pris en photo la scène avant que le spectacle ne débute, comme s'ils voulaient prouver qu'ils y étaient! Le spectacle est séparé en deux parties, les musiciens jouant d'abord des classiques des deux albums Epilog (1994) et Viljans Öga (2012) en plus d'une pièce inédite. La deuxième partie est entièrement consacrée à l'interprétation intégrale de l'album-culte Hybris (1992). Ceux qui n'ont pas pu y aller vont sûrement en entendre parler et regretter de ne pas y avoir assisté!
Le groupe est accueilli par une ovation monstre et on sent une fébrilité dans l'air alors que les musiciens débutent le spectacle avec «Prolog» suivi de «Höstsejd» de l'album «Epilog». L'éclairage est au début d'un rouge sombre, ne nous laissant voir que les formes des musiciens et laissant toute la place à la musique. Puis le jeu d'éclairage s'accentue et on se laisse transporter par leur prestation. Même si la structure musicale est complexe, on a l'impression que tout semble facile pour eux, surtout Anna Holmgren qui saute d'un instrument à vent à l'autre ou aux claviers avec aisance et ajoute des effets sonores divers à travers la musique. On a même droit à un duo de saxophone entre Mme Holmgren et le claviériste Linus Kåse. Le batteur Erik Hammarström est dans une forme presque dangereuse, le travail de Tord Lindman à la guitare et aux percussions et la guitare de Jonas Engdegård sont impeccable et le son de la guitare basse de Johan Brand frappe dans le mille. Pas besoin de vous dire que la pièce s'est terminée par une ovation! Les musiciens semblent surpris et émus d'une telle réception! Après quelques mots d'Anna Holmgren vantant notre ville, «Längtans Klocka», de l'album «Viljans Öga» nous est joué. Le mélange vieux Prog / Jazz / Funk est parfait et la magie fait son effet et la pièce est encore une fois suivi d'une ovation. «Dagsmeja», une pièce n'ayant pas encore trouvée de niche sur un disque, nous est ensuite présentée. La musique est chaleureuse et est dans la même veine que les pièces de l'album «Viljans Öga». Le public est à nouveau conquis! Jonas Engdegård nous dit que cette pièce sera sur le prochain album ('À la vitesse que l'on sort des albums, il devrait sortir dans la prochaine décennie!') et nous présente les musiciens avant de comparer nos pays et cultures (ils ont découvert et adoré la poutine). Puis le bal repart en beauté avec «Sorgmantel» de l'album «Viljans Öga» et «Sista Somrar» de l'album «Epilog» avant d'avoir une ovation monstre et d'aller à l'entracte.
La deuxième partie du spectacle nous fait revisiter l'opus «Hybrid» au complet. Le claviériste nous fait le plaisir de porter un tee-shirt de «Maniaque de Musique Prog» pendant le spectacle. J'avoue m'être fermé les yeux à maintes reprises pour me laisser voyager par cette musique si forte et envoutante à la fois! Il y a une ovation après chaque pièce! Cela fait maintenant 25 ans que l'album est sorti et le son est aussi frais et actuel aujourd'hui. Un classique qui vieillit bien et qu'on apprécie tous de la première à la dernière note!
Un des meilleurs spectacles que j'ai vu depuis belle lurette! Mise à part quelques problèmes techniques hors du contrôle des musiciens, cette soirée inoubliable restera comme étant une des plus belles visites de groupes à Québec! Merci à JLC Musik: c'est un coup de maître! Wow!

Wow! Sorry, I'm still under the emotion felt during this memorable show of Änglagård at the Jean-Paul Tardif Room last night. We had the privilege and the honor to host the Swedes who were on their first visit to Quebec and Canada! Many people took a photo of the stage before the show begins, as if they wanted to prove they were there! The show is separated into two parts, the musicians first playing classics of the two albums Epilog (1994) and Viljans Öga (2012) and even adding a new song. The second part is dedicated to the full interpretation of the cult-status album Hybris (1992). Those who were unable to go will probably hear about it and regret not attending!
The group is greeted by a monster standing ovation and there’s excitement in the air as the musicians begin the show with "Prolog" followed by "Hostsejd" from the album "Epilog". The stage lighting in the beginning is dark red, not letting us see the faces of the musicians and leaving all the room for the music. Then lighting then varies and we let ourselves get carried away by their performance. Although the musical structure is complex, it looks like everything seems easy for them, especially for Anna Holmgren who switches from a wind instrument to another or to keyboards with ease and adds various sound effects through the music. There is even a saxophone duo between Ms. Holmgren and keyboardist Linus Kåse. Drummer Erik Hammarström is in an almost dangerous form, the work of Tord Lindman on guitar and percussion and the guitar of Jonas Engdegård are impeccable and the sound of the bass guitar of Johan Brand hits the nail on the head. No need to say that the song ended with a standing ovation from the crowd! The musicians seem to be surprised and moved by such a response! After a few words of Anna Holmgren complimenting our city, "Langtans Klocka", from the album "Viljans Öga" is played to us. The old Prog / Jazz / Funk mix is perfect, magic has its effect and the song is once more followed by a standing ovation. "Dagsmeja", a song not having yet found its niche on a disc, is then presented. The music is warm and enjoyable and is in the same vein as the songs from the album "Viljans Öga". The public is again conquered! Jonas Engdegård tells us that this piece will be on the next album ('at the speed we get out albums, it should be out in the next decade!') and presents us the musicians before comparing our countries and cultures (they have discovered and loved the ‘Poutine’). Then the show rolls on again in beauty with 'Sorgmantel' from the album "Viljans Öga" and "Sista Somrar" from the album "Epilog" before they have another standing ovation and we go at the intermission.
The second part of the show makes us revisit the opus "Hybrid" in its entirety. The keyboardist makes us the honor of wearing a "Maniaque de Music Prog" tee-shirt during the set. I admit having closed my eyes many times during that second part to let me be travelled by this music, so strong and captivating at the same time! There is a standing ovation after every song! It has now been 25 years since it was released, and the sound is as fresh and actual today. A classic album that ages well and so we are all appreciating it from the first to the last note!
One of the best shows I've seen in a long time! Apart from a few technical problems beyond the control of the musicians, this unforgettable evening will remain as one of the best visit of a band in Quebec City! Thanks to JLC Musik: it is a stroke of genius! Wow!
