Réédition de ce deuxième album devenu un classique du groupe DRIFTING SUN de 1998, l’album On The Rebound a un son qui est encore frais et actuel. Les deux Français d’origine Pat SANDERS et Manu SIBONA, avec l’aide des Anglais Tobin BRYANT et John SPEARMAN ainsi que le chanteur Américain Chris MARTINI ont créé quelque chose de durable et qui est à la hauteur de leur talent! On a l’impression que ça vient tout juste de sortir sur le marché.
«The Charade» débute l’album en beauté: un Prog-Rock avec des bouts de pièces plus lentes, des changements de styles soudains et des contretemps un peu partout. J’ai trouvé beaucoup de similitudes avec le groupe LEMUR VOICE que j’aime bien. «Swan Song» fait plus «vieux» Prog mais avec un son qui n’est quand même pas défraichi. «Drifting Sun» est une ballade qui met en valeur la voix de Chris MARTINI qui, d’ailleurs, ressemble quelque fois à celle de Rik EMMET du groupe TRIUMPH, surtout lors des refrains. «Long Night» fait un peu dans le mystère et le triste. C’est une belle pièce que j’aime bien. «Heaven's Eyes» est aussi une bonne pièce mais peut-être la moins forte de l’album. «Minstrel» est probablement la pièce qui a le moins bien vieilli : un mélange de son qui rappelle un peu le groupe GTR ou les premiers albums d’IQ. «Mon Masque» est chanté en anglais ET en français. Ça me rappelle un peu la musique du groupe québécois JELLYFICHE mélangé avec un style un peu Baroque ou de musique de cirque.
Un album qui est peut-être sorti au mauvais temps, lorsque le Prog était à son plus bas niveau de popularité et se cherchait. Mais un son qui ne démode pas trop vite et qui sait plaire à pas mal d’amateurs de styles différents de Progressif. J’aime bien la variété disponible sur ce disque!

A re-issue of this classic second album from the band DRIFTING SUN which first came out in 1998, the album On the Rebound has a sound that is still fresh and actual. The two French of origin Pat SANDERS and Manu SIBONA, with Englishmen Tobin BRYANT and John SPEARMAN assisting, as well as the American singer Chris MARTINI have created something which has a lasting sound and which is at the height of their talent! We have the impression that it just came out on the market.
"The Charade" begins the album with beauty: a Prog-Rock with some slower parts, sudden styles changes and counter-time beats throughout. I found a lot of sound and style similarities with the band LEMUR VOICE. “Swan Song” sounds more like 'old' Prog but with a sound that's still very listenable. "Drifting Sun" is a ballad that showcases the voice of Chris MARTINI, which, incidentally, sometimes resembles Rik EMMETT’s of the band TRIUMPH, especially during the choruses. “Long Night” tends to be a little mysterious and sad but it's a beautiful piece which I like. "Heaven's Eyes" is also a good song but maybe the less strong on the album. "Minstrel" is probably the piece that hasn’t aged well: a mix of sound that reminds me a bit of the Group GTR or the first albums from IQ. “Mon Masque” closes the album and is sung in both English AND French. It reminds me a bit of some music made from the Quebecer band JELLYFICHE mixed with a little Baroque style or circus music.
An album which might have been released at the wrong time, when Prog was at its lowest level of popularity and was searching for itself. But a sound that’s never out of style and which pleases a lot of fans from different styles of progressive music. I like the musical variety available on this disc!
